Occupational Health Nurse - Vancouver, British Columbia

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing critical input into the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of employee health programs and delivering a variety of health promotion, injury/illness and disease prevention services to staff throughout the PHSA, ensuring that the organization meets related legislated requirements and professional standards of practice. In collaboration with other Workplace Health team members, PHSA management, and workers, the position supports an overall safe and healthy workforce.


You will:


Play a critical role in the recommendation, development, delivery, and evaluation of employee health programs.

Assess the health of employees and work groups.

Consult and advise managers, supervisors, and staff on potential health risks involving exposure to chemical, biological, physical and psychosocial hazards and application of relevant procedures and standards of practice in compliance with governing regulations and guidelines. Identify health surveillance needs and establish appropriate monitoring processes.

Review the immunity status of staff; identify and arrange specific tests; and provide appropriate immunizations.

Develop, implement, and maintain confidential employee health records using established electronic databases.

Educate staff in safe work practices as applicable to communicable disease prevention, health awareness, and behaviour/attitudes/perceptions to reduce morbidity/mortality. 



You have:


A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a diploma or bachelor’s degree of nursing and practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) supplemented by completion of BCCDC’s Immunization Competency Course and three (3) years of recent related experience in occupational or public health.

Demonstrated knowledge of employee health principles and practices and the ability to work in a dynamic environment of changing priorities required.

Ability to work independently and be guided by standards of practice, WCB regulations and PHSA standards.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills.

Problem solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to prepare written reports and letters, and proposals.

Ability to use related equipment including the human resources information management system, word processing, spreadsheet, database and internet tools.
