Carecor is currently assisting the Vice President of Professional Practice and Chief Nursing Executive of Waypoint Centre by recruiting two Nurse Practitioners, to provide primary healthcare services, not mental health services.

About the Employer

Waypoint is a University of Toronto teaching hospital with 301 beds and an academic research centre, located on the shores of Georgian Bay in the Midland & Penetanguishene region which is north west of Barrie, Ontario. The Vice President of Quality & Professional Practice & Chief Nursing Executive is currently seeking multiple full time Nurse Practitioners to employ on a permanent basis, to delivery primary care to patients. The Nurse Practitioner provides leadership and collaborates with the physician group, over 400 other nurses and the inter-professional team to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate inpatient and community centered programs and services. The Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and manages common health problems and diseases, and provides primary health care with a strong emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention to patients. The mental health of the patient is not Nurse Practitioner’s focus as Waypoint has psychiatrists, psychologists and the inter- professional teams that are focused on supporting patients with mental health illnesses.

Status

  • Full-time, permanent, 4 x 10 hours, day-time shifts per week during regular office hours Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive primary health care including assessments, diagnoses, counselling, screening, referral, education, treatment and follow - up
  • Works with patient to determine presence of existing and potential health problems
  • Involves patient and families in identifying risk factors and health problems, goal setting and
  • interventions for disease, treatment, prevention and health promotion
  • Determines the need for, and orders, laboratory and diagnostic tests, x-rays and ultrasounds; interprets results and consults with physician
  • Keeps records of patient interactions to assist other practitioners in continuing patient care and collect statistical information
  • Collaborates with providers and patients to ensure care, management, referrals and information
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of policies, protocols and procedures to improve patient care
  • Engages in and supports clinical research/evaluation related activities occurring in clinical settings

Role Requirements

  • Completion of Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Masters of Nursing or related graduate degree with a clinical focus is an asset
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of an accredited controlled substance course according to CNO standards, is a strong asset
  • Demonstrates knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing theory/practice, principles, interventions, medications and symptoms
  • Knowledge of practice standards and expectations for Registered Nurse in Extended Care; health promotion and disease prevention methods
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications e.g. Meditech or similar is an asset, MS- Office items are an asset
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • CNA certification as a Certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and spoken communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
